Dilish Farm, run by Trisha and her husband Dillon, began its CSA program in 2017, driven by a commitment to fresh, local produce and a deep connection to their community. Trisha built their membership base by leveraging Facebook groups and a Wordpress blog, gradually growing the CSA. However, as operations scaled, managing member communications, marketing, and workflows became overwhelming.

By 2020, Trisha had moved to a Square website and experimented with CSA marketing strategies she learned from a course by Corrinna Bench, including offering “trial boxes” to potential members. While effective for attracting interest, this approach created new challenges.

"I set up a workflow for trial boxes, but I was ‘babying’ potential members—spending so much time explaining how the program worked that it pulled my attention away from my fully committed members," Trisha explained.

By 2023, she reached a breaking point. Her patchwork system of Mailchimp, Wordpress, Pinterest, and Facebook was eating away at her time, and managing trial box workflows was exhausting. Trisha knew she needed a streamlined solution to focus on what mattered most: farming and building relationships with her community.

"I was hacking together all these systems, and it was eating away at my time and energy. Something had to change."

Finding Farmhand

When Trisha discovered Farmhand, it was a revelation. Its unified interface promised to centralize her operations, reduce her workload, and create a seamless experience for members.

"As a farmer, you know you need a strong digital presence, but marketing isn’t my skillset. When I saw Farmhand’s interface and learned it could do everything for me, the timing felt perfect."

A Seamless Transition

Farmhand made the transition effortless. Within days, their team migrated Dilish Farm’s systems and delivered a cohesive digital presence, complete with a new website, email templates, a CSA handbook, and an integrated eCommerce platform.

"I just sent in my logo and colors, and they took care of the rest. Now, if I need updates, I send a quick text, and it’s done. It’s like magic!"

With everything centralized, Trisha no longer had to juggle multiple platforms. Weekly newsletters, recipes, and updates were handled via a simple weekly questionnaire, saving her over 100 hours per week (her words!).

"It’s a huge mental timesaver. I don’t have to search for recipes, format newsletters, or worry about member communications anymore."

Transforming Operations

In place of a trial box, Farmhand introduced flexible options like pay-as-you-go memberships and skip weeks. These changes streamlined the old trial box workflow and enhanced the member experience.

"I worried flexibility might hurt retention, but it’s been the opposite. Members stay longer, they love the convenience, and the whole process is effortless on my end."

Instead of manually managing trial boxes, Trisha now uses Farmhand’s automated system to welcome members efficiently.

"New members can sign up on my website, get all the information they need upfront, and engage with our farm right away. For full-season members, I can offer discounts as a reward for their commitment. It’s a win-win."

On fulfillment days, Trisha simply logs in to Farmhand, views her pack list, and harvests exactly what’s needed.

"The time savings are incredible. I don’t have to stress about welcoming new members mid-season or managing trial workflows anymore."

Farmhand’s impact on Dilish Farm has been transformative, with results Trisha can see and measure beyond streamlined operations. In her own words, Trisha said: "Farmhand fees are nominal compared to the value it brings. I’ve grown sales without adding staff or extra marketing expenses, and it's allowed me to prep strategically for the future while staying focused on the work I love—farming and connecting with my members."

"
I’ve had members come to the farmers’ market specifically to stock up on ingredients for recipes they’ve tried from the newsletter and loved. That’s real-life engagement I can see and measure in sales.
